Why is everyone migrating to the cloud? Are you ready to migrate too?

Migration to the cloud picked up during the pandemic. In a recent IDC study, Oracle users were surveyed about their migration to Oracle Cloud (fig 1).

The numbers indicate that this move to Oracle Cloud is not a passing trend, but rather the future of ERP software. 84% of those who moved to the Cloud rated the move and the service as ‘good’ or ‘very good’ (fig 2).

When it comes to migration, it is smarter to wait for the opportune moment to migrate rather than to jump on board immediately. This is why once you begin questioning whether or not your company is ready, you must analyze your company’s challenges and ask yourself the following questions:

The technology should fit your company, not the other way around.

  1. Do you have end-of-life technology?
  2. Are your IT costs taking up a majority of your budget?
  3. Have your hardware acquisitions begun to hurt cash flow?
  4. Has your company begun to work in a more remote setting?
  5. Do you lack a disaster recovery plan?
  6. Are agility, pay as you go, and innovation important to your company?

If you answered yes to most or all of these, there is a high chance your company is ready for the move to the cloud.

If you are not ready, you are not alone. 13% of the IDC study’s sample stated that they currently have no plans to move to the cloud and 47% stated that they were planning to make the move in 2-10 years. There is a high chance your company will eventually be ready to begin the cloud migration process, which is why you should start looking at the key benefits ahead of time.

Some key benefits are:

  • Security and Data Protection
  • Data Modernization
  • Systems Integration
  • Lower Total Cost of Ownership
  • Data residency does not change ownership
  • Consolidation
  • Capabilities beyond ERP
  • Simplifies operations / saves time
